2019/20 ACQUISITIONS

Here are three more Christmas editions of the LONDON ILLUSTRATED NEWS: from 1895; 1958 & 1962

I have had a small collection of 1930s vintage THEATRE WORLD for some time but this year I have added many more. Here are my original ones plus some PLAY PICTORIALS, also from the 1930s.

The new ones are mostly from the 1960s, a period that saw the format change twice and the cover design three times! I was living in London during the Sixties so they contain many articles and reviews of the shows that I saw.

NEW IN 2021

June and August  1955 editions of the British Railways Magazine -  Eastern Region, each having a photo of my Uncle Geoff inside.

Nine copies of The Illustrated London News from 1964 including the Royal Visit to Canada and an edition of Picture Post from May 1951.

NEW ADDITIONS IN 2024

I now have 9 more copies of the Blue Peter shipping magazine from the years 1927 to 1931. Each one features a sketch by Hubert Williams for which I have his original pencil drawings. Find more information HERE

As well as the editions of Theatre World listed above I now have the November 1933 issue which I have been trying to track down for years. The reason I wanted it is because it has a full review, with pictures, of Cole Porter's musical, Nymph Errant. I was given a present of an original programme on my 21st birthday and since then have bought the novel, and a tape and programme of a concert version given in 1989.

I have also started a collection of THE STUDIO art magazines. I am a volunteer at our local Art Gallery and they contain a lot of useful and interesting information. One is from 1896 and the others from 1937 and 1938.
